Optimal blood pressure with respect to cardiovascular risk is systolic
pressure _120 mm Hg and diastolic pressure _80 mm Hg. However,
unusually low readings should be evaluated for clinical significance.

In general, individuals with blood pressure ranges considered borderline
high (i.e., systolic of 130 to 139 mm Hg or diastolic of 85 to
89 mm Hg) should have their blood pressures rechecked within 1
year. Blood pressures in the stage 1 range should be confirmed within
2 months by repeated measurements; however, certain lifestyle approaches
are appropriate even at this level. Blood pressures that are
markedly elevated (e.g., systolic _180 mm Hg or diastolic _110 mm
Hg) or those associated with evidence of existing end-organ damage

We usually think of high blood pressure, or hypertension, as a problem that affects adults. But in fact, this condition can be present at all ages, even in infancy. About five of every 100 children have higher than normal blood pressure, although fewer than one in 100 has medically significant hypertension.

The term blood pressure actually refers to two separate measurements: systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure reached in the arteries as the heart pumps blood out for circulation through the body; and diastolic blood pressure is the much lower pressure that occurs in the arteries when the heart relaxes to take blood in between beats. If either or both of these measurements are above the range found in healthy individuals of similar age and sex, it's called hypertension.

Hypertension is more common among individuals of color than whites. It also seems to be more prevalent in some parts of the world; for example, it's very rare among Alaskan Eskimos but affects as many as 40 of every 100 adults in northern Japan. In many cases hypertension seems to develop with age. As a result, your child may show no signs of high blood pressure as an infant but may develop the condition as she grows.

In most instances of high blood pressure, no known cause can be identified. However, when hypertension becomes severe in children, it's usually a symptom of another serious problem, such as kidney disease or abnormalities of the heart, or the nervous or endocrine (gland) system.

So how, exactly, do kids get high blood pressure in the first place?
Although hypertension can be caused by other health problems, tots and teens with high blood pressure often have a family history of the condition and tend to lead unhealthy lifestyles, with a bad diet, too much weight and/or stress, and not enough exercise.

What about cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a nature product present in food oil which accumulates on blood vessels and makes it narrow leading to high blood velocity and high prssure..
