Thinking about a laptop

For my new edu career I may need to buy a laptop. I am short of money (unemployed for the whole summer lol), so I am looking at the best of the low-range or the minimum of the mid-range.

My requirements are:
1. All black color
2. No OS (I don't want Windows, so I don't think I want to pay it)
3. Big enter/return on the keyboard (hehe)
4. 2GB Ram is preffered
5. No celeron! At least the cheapest C2D
6. Add-on video card is preffered, but not 100%

Currently I am looking at one Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 2550: http://laptop.bg/#/details/FUJITSU-SIEMENS/9/1471

I also saw equivalent variant of IBM ThinkPad, but it's with Intel X3100 VC (on board).

Any recommendations in that pricerange guys?

how about compaq? i bought one few months a go. RM1700=USD500.
the spec:
-AMD Turion 64x2 (1.9GHz)
-1.5mb ram ddr2
-nvidia geforce go 7600
-15 inch wide screen
-black color
-no OS (but they give me cd driver for vista)

I was searching for Compaq, but they are not good spread in my country.

I bought one Fujitsu Siemens - Amilo Pi 2550 (without OS hehe). It costs 600 Euro, which is pretty nice. Here it is:

Me too looking for one.. I prefer more than 2Gb RAM.. I'm willing to pay upto 1100 USD
But almost all these high end laptops come with genuine vista which I do not want to pay for.. (I still prefer to use Windows..lol )

more than 2GB ram is not a good idea for a laptop:

1. If it is 3GB then it's not standart (2GB + 1GB) and they do not work simultaneously, which means speed loss
2. If it is 4GB then you will need to use 64bit OS in order to utilize it. If it is Windows - you won't have any drivers (sorry laptop vendors do not like the 64bit Windows yet)...

I am very happy with the Amilo Pi 2550. Well the keyboard and touchpad are not the best; however in that class I can hardly expect better

It's the cheapest new laptop which has dedicated video card (ATI HD2400 mobile).

Usually they sell it with Windows Vista, but I managed to get it without OS, which makes it a little bit cheaper. If anybody needs drivers for XP - I have them!

Carefully review all offers first

People here say that IBM are the best. Other people are fans of Toshiba (they are very cheap, but too shiny for my visual taste). I am the only one who grabbed the Fujitsu-Siemens on promotion
