can we use 49r flex for 42r firmware?
actually i heard it cant be done, is that correct?

I think the word 4xR is for firmware, not flex. Flex is independent.
We can pair it with any firmware as long as it came from the same family of firmware.
Flex that came from 4xR MP will work with all 4xR firmwares.

Yups, you can use 49r flex over 42r firmware,

The only firmware that doesn't mix with 4xr is anything 6xr or 7xr based
