Well, this is very interesting.
Is this permanent? how do you control the light? have you made tests about light duration and heating?

it is permanent,you can control the light with a little switch which have two circuit. i have not test about it, i refer the datasheet of the flashlight IC lm3551 which E2 used. |

Wow...that's cool.But I'm waiting something like mpkg to make our flashlight like E398.That will be amazing as our E2 has a very shining flashlight.

Not worth the risk doing the hardware mod, rather use a software to control it...

modify the hardware is better than use the software,you can download the datasheet of the lm3551 and read it ,then you'll know why |

Hi all well, I checked the datasheet... according to its information, the modification may work: forcing T_F and SD pins to GND puts the LM3551 into low power torch mode (Flashlight); the LM3551 has a thermal shutdown circuit (wich helps a lot  ). LM3551 also has a timeout function (Flash timeout protection). According to the datasheet, you must ground the FTO pin to disable it... but still I see the C466 capacitor in the circuit diagram... |

I'm sure this moddification can work if we send the FTO pin to ground directly (removing C466 and putting a short circuit instead), sending SD pin to GND (ground, just like the circuit diagram that rzd4evr posted) and making a well-written mpkg application who switches the flash signal between 0/0V/GND (torch on) and 1/V+ (torch off).
