Look this tests!!!
Tests with HD Tune Pro (OMITTING THE LOWER SPEED VALUES, NOTHING TOO MUCH DIFERENT)

1.MY KINGMAX MICROSD 1GB (CAME WITH THE PHONE)

>>ON USB<<
File Size: 64 MB
Block size and Read speed
1024 KB 8788 KB/s
2048 KB 8796 KB/s
4096 KB 8814 KB/s
Block size and Write speed
256 KB 4426 KB/s
4096 KB 4474 KB/s
8192 KB 4498 KB/s

>>ON ROKR E2 USB MASS STORAGE<<
SEE ALL THESE LITTLE VALUES! IT'S REALLY BAD...
File Size: 64 MB
Block size and Read speed
1024 KB 1057 KB/s
2048 KB 977 KB/s
4096 KB 1041 KB/s
Block size and Write speed
256 KB 1064 KB/s
4096 KB 1066 KB/s
8192 KB 1066 KB/s

2.THE SAME ON MY BLAZING FAST NEW MICROSD
OCZ TRIFECTA 2GB 66X

>>ON USB<<
File Size: 64 MB
Block size and Read speed
128 KB 18876 KB/s
2048 KB 18888 KB/s
4096 KB 18879 KB/s
Block size and Write speed
64 KB 8917 KB/s
1024 KB 8969 KB/s
4096 KB 8920 KB/s

>>ON ROKR E2 USB MASS STORAGE<<
AGAIN, SEE ALL THESE LITTLE VALUES! IT'S REALLY BAD...

File Size: 64 MB
Block size and Read speed

128 KB 1057 KB/s
2048 KB 1058 KB/s
4096 KB 1063 KB/s
Block size and Write speed
64 KB 1064 KB/s
1024 KB 1055 KB/s
4096 KB 1066 KB/s

So, as you can see, no matter slow or fast is the card, it looks like that the speed is limited in something about 1066KB/s.
But, the same cards plugged direct on the USB (MicroSD to SD/USB adapter from OCZ Trifecta Kit) the speeds go up to 18888 KB/s read and 8969 KB/s write.
Conclusion: Use a card reader to transfer big files to the card, do not use the phone usb connection.

Good job on your effort. +karma.

I know all along that the Transfer speed through mass storage is A LOT more slower than through a card reader. But I never bother to benchmark it.. Hehs.. Now I know that the speed is VERY slow.

I was very happy with my new "super-duper-fast-card" and did these tests.
Then I became very unhappy... Can I laught or I cry?  Smiley

I did a test with HDPARM (at rokr e2 shell: "busybox hdparm -tT /dev/mmca1") and I noticed a change do 2.2mb/s to 3.5mb/s with the new card. So I can say that to the system, It had a gain of speed. It's much faster to load a game on GBA emulator.
So, worth the gain for the swap file. It's a talk of cost/benefit.

Only 36MB/s read and 18MB/s write... Wow, it's amazing!
Here in Brazil things like ultra-speed cards, gadgets, and these geek things is hard to find, and cost much more than is USA.
But for the rokr e2 there isn't so much difference, the speeds change like plus 1mb/s, 1,5mb/s...

I disagree... Using phone usb is a lot of faster than using Card Reader. Im using kingston SD 2GB.

So, post your results. Maybe you modded/stock firmware is somehow faster than ours.
I did these tests with HD Tune Pro and with Sandra with 3 different cards. I'll try to post the graphics later.

maybe your problem came from your 'kingmax'

e2's USB speed is fast

No, I tested my Kingmax and my OCZ Trifecta 66x. Both speeds are equal, limited at 1066KB/s on Rokr E2 Mass Storage mode.
Post your tests. I only believe in numbers/graphics. Wink

See my graphics:

microSD Kingmax 1GB plugged on USB (via adapter, not reader)

microSD Kingmax 1GB on Rokr E2 (mass storage)

microSD OCZ Trifecta 2GB 66x speed plugged on USB (via adapter, not reader)

microSD OCZ Trifecta 2GB 66x speed on Rokr E2 (mass storage)

########################################################

The graphs tells you everything.
You can see the tests attached in this reply.

I think its the USB port. Im always using the back USB port than the front one. I will try to get the software to benchmark the SD card on next week after I buy a new hard disc. Things got really mess up with motorola modding files.

Maybe. I tested with Rokr Ultimate Firmware, no OC, no kaleidoscope.
I tested on front/back USB 2.0 ports, new motherboard, same speed.

My PC specs for doubts:
-AMD Athlon64 3800+
-Motherboard Asus A8N-SLI-SE
-ATI Radeon x800 XL 256MB GDDR3
-120GB+250GB SATA Disks
-2GB DDR400 Kingston in Dual Channel Mode
-Windows XP PRO

The specs are very very good, although it's not dualcore.
Put your tests here, I wish I'm wrong. (But seems not...)
