Well 1st go to phone (software) n find backup tools by keaglez Smiley
installed it on sd card n set it to root
run it n choose backup then contact/sms...done
all u hav to do just restore it again after flashing Smiley
hmm one more thing, what mp r u using right now? If still stock mp better use motorola phone tools (MPT), usually it came along with the E2 package or u can find it on the net
if u backup using MPT dont flash any mp with kaleidoskop patch Smiley its still have bug the E2 can't connect to MPT
good luck
