No kidding - it should be safe enough. It should be like the hydrogen engines for cars (still prototypes too of course) - the hydrogen is sodden in aluminium, so it cannot explode...

The problem was that you cannot charge whole car so easy and fast, so the option is when you go to the gas station to replace your aluminium tank with a charged one... trust me it's very heavy and the gas stations do not have enough space to keep them
