I was unable to connect my E2 to computer using Ubuntu 8.04.

However I succeeded when using ubuntu-7.04. There are many tutorials in the web. One is floating around in aktaeons blog.

I did tried, the thing to connect a Linux phone like ours or well i think most Moto phones, is that from i think Ubuntu 7.04 they began to put aside this module call Zaurus, which is in charge of running and syncronizing the devices and if you want to get connected with a newer Ubuntu you'll need to edit the kernel, which is quite a tedious and hard work and most of the times leads to uncompabilities because the people that make it not always has the same things you have connected and then you might have troubles in that sense
btw i've tried with 7.10, 8.04, i yet don't know if 8.10 got that module included, but i know 7.04 does Cheesy

hi pebri, don't worry too much, Actually i use Ubuntu 8.10 and i can make telnet and samba. Its very easy.

1. Download the zaurus module here in 2 parts, this is an precompiled kernel.

   1.- http://rapidshare.com/files/130817679/kernel.aa
   2.- http://rapidshare.com/files/130849131/kernel.ab

2. you have to join the two parts, with this, in your actually dir, were you have de kernel parts precompiled.

Quote
cat kernel.a* > linux-image-2.6.24.3.170708_2.6.24.3.170708-10.00.Custom_i386.deb

3. install the precompiled kernel, like this:

Quote
$ sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.24.3.170708_2.6.24.3.170708-10.00.Custom_i386.deb

4. then when all is ok installed, reboot ubuntu.

5. Done! thats all the first part. zaurus module installed success.

6.  in telnet type this:

Quote
$ sudomodprobe usbnet

Quote
$ sudomodprobe cdc-acm

Quote
$ sudo modprobe zaurus

7. Connect your phone to pc in USB net mode.

8. in your phone, run this script from file Manager:

9. now in your phone run the script from filemanager.

10. Then on terminal type this

Quote
ifconfig usb0 192.168.16.1 broadcast 192.168.1.255 netmask 255.255.255.0 mtu 900

11. On terminal type this:

Quote
telnet 192.168.16.2
