Title: [E2] Ubackup v0.1 Multilingual
Post by: Taurnil on July 15, 2007, 10:23:34 pm
Hi all,
With this MPKG Application you won't lose any important information after flashing. It allows you to...

You can choose what do you want to back up:

You can give a name to your backup files If you want, or let the application to generate a date/time-based name:
The backup files are saved into your SD's root folder, with .ubackup extension.

The application will ask you to choose a language the first time it runs:

DON'T FORGET TO SET ROOT PERMISSIONS TO THIS APP. You can do this using Phoneware Manager in ilove3d's 46P/48PRU Firmwares, or by editing manually the UserID key in /mmc/mmca1/.system/java/CardRegistry file, from ezx to root.  You should install it in your SD card, so it won't be wiped out after flashing ;)

Big Thanks to this people:
Darkslider (Russian langfile), Darwin_Rodgers (Papiamento langfile) pizzadox619 (Indonesian langfile), Exploited (Bulgarian langfile) hotus (french Langfile), vanhieumai (vietnamese), Atomik88 (portuguese), Lasly and yjplsn (chinese langfile ;))
MartinV (Beta testing)

you can get it HERE (http://www.4shared.com/file/19936277/9fad64f6/Ubackup0v1_multilingual.html)

Any bug or suggestion? do you want to translate the application into your language? you can write me to fernandodistinto -at- gmail.com

Well, I am not sure if the show* binaries work on e680i.
Also, I don't know the paths in that cellphone
I wish I had one of those :(

Code:
Can I rehost it on E2Mod.com if you don't mind?
That would be great...  ;)
ADDED: Hey exploited, give me a couple hours so I can add the french langfile I will update the first post then.

ADDED2: OK, I updated the mpkg with the french langfile... now has 8 languages ;)

ADDED3 (jeez...):  A guy from M3 (Nightstalker1993) told me he had problems restoring his backup. He says this mpkg wiped out his SIM CARD!  :o But I don't even know how to modify a sim card using bash/telnet....  ???

I tested this mpkg on my own e2:
1) I made a backup
2) I made a master clear and master reset
3) I restored the backup file. It worked perfectly.  8)

A friend of mine made a backup before flashing 48P ROKR Ultimate (he had 46P New Beginning) and the application worked without any problems.  8)

So, I don't know what happened to Nightstalker1993.  :-\

.ubackup files are really .tar files, I didn't used .tar.gz because Gzip compressin increases the backup times when you have many skins in your phone.

Rename the backup file or add .tar extension. Then you'll be able to open it using winrar, 7z, tar.... :)

I wish I could. But I would need documentation about this cellphone. Do show* binaries work on it?  can we run bash scripts? :(

I know this have been told a thousand times, but...
did you set the application permissions to root?
I dunno why you have problems with it, has worked fine for me all the time...

Yes, I did set the permission to root with phoneware manager
And I've tried making backup and restore twice, with different backup image.
All what I got was slow phone performance (unresponsive key press), loss of ALL data, message center locked out, SIM contact gone
I can barely get access into the setup menu and do a full reset.

(I'm not sure if it is related to my lang. pack, I'm using a lang. pack that was extracted from my phone previously)

:(
restoration process may take some time... it depends on how many skins and data you have in your cellphone... the last time I restored my data I had 5 skins on my phone, 100+contacts, 50+sms... It took like 6 minutes to restore the backup totally. After rebooting, everything was in its right place.

SIM contact gone?
excuse me, I don't have idea about how to modify your SIM card using bash... bash is really limited and ubackup is just a script.  Maybe you're applying a contact filter and your rokr isn't showing your SIM contacts.

Please, reflash your phone with your FW. Once I had the same problem and that was enough.

Will there be any indication that the backup's done?
The phone asked me for a reboot, and after that, things were gone. As in my case.

yes, the script tells you when the backup is ready.
When you restore it, it will finish asking you a backup...
have you tried reflashing the FW? I'm sure that will solve your probs... I had that problem testing CHINA IQ's Firmware...

Hi
I'm not sure if I should put these files. The media lists also include the media in your phone memory. I mean, all preloaded wallpapers and ringtones... so the only thing I would like to add are the media playlists...
thx for your suggestion.
also I'll add bash history and a couple files in a next version (maybe the application in phone memory, but I must find the registry)

Title: Re: [E2] Ubackup v0.1 Multilingual

There's no SMS folder in E2, lol
contacts and sms are in a database.
the file is a standard  .tar file, so you can unpack it changin' its extension.
