i dont get it??? i've been watching videos aboute Qtopia is very interisteng but i cant find any difference with any e2 fw... so what's new with this??? we cant use the wi-fi cuz e2 doesn't have the hardware, that sux!!
so again what's the difference between Qtopia and any e2 fw??

It's a brand new OS, i believe you know what Linux is because of E2 and now, it's like you have a MacOSX computer and you install Linux on it, now you will have Linux apps on your Mac (that's the main porpuse having QTopia apps, which are more than E2)

i got that, but still i dont see the difference cuz is like emulating this new OS on the e2 right??? unless somebody could make a fw based on qtopia...

@Taurnil: Everything works fine sms and calls i didnt tried running mp3's.. btw you cant use camera when running qtopia.. that's my case cuz i didnt find the camera icon tu run it hehe

anda put the folder of Qtopia (the files of zip) on the sd

and run the .lin
and the Qtopia will run

Hi, i tested it an works just great, but a really dislike to need a pc to run it, does any body one know why is the font so small when loaded from phone? i made a script to run qtopia from phone and actually it works very well, and also made an mpkg package and works to, the only problem is the mini font, if anybody knows why is this happening it would be very helpfull and the mpkg will be finished, thanx.

I would like some help i saw the bash extract a few post ago, and i said hey i think that can be done on your phone, and this is pretty much want i did, unfortunately i couldn't make it work it just stays with a message saying Tapi server is disconected


To use the script you need to have a fodler called Qtopia on your ezxlocal folder.

The problem is when you make an mpkg or .lin shell script, the font of the program is too small, but we dont know why.

edit /../../Qtopia/etc/default/Trolltech/qpe.conf
find [Font]
change FontSize[]

but this no solve the problem entirely, the text in the menus are stil small, i don't know how to change it, but in the file /../../Qtopia/etc/defaultbuttons.conf play with

well, for those who want the mpkg, here it is, but it still have the font problem, every thing else works well, just put the qtopia files in mmc under a folder named qtopia, install the mpkg, give root permisions an run it, it take a while to start so be pacient.

I also made a script to run qtopia from ext3 partition (mmca6), is much more fast than running it from flash... give it a try:

this script need qtopia files to be in qtopia folder on mmc, i recommend to run it from telnet. it only will work if your firmware hava a link to ext3 partition in /mmc/mmca6 (i use ezine 2 but a guess in blackstorm is the same).

hmm, none of u experiencing speed issue? It's damn slow for me. Slower than E2's default interface. And thats with overclock and 64MB swap.

sorry for repost but... I did it!!!! i managed to run qtopia from phone with normal size font and icons, with this fix now we can run it with my mpkg (or any other script) without a computer.

The trick is very simple, just paste this line:
^{export QWS_DISPLAY="LinuxFb:mmWidth43:mmHeight58:0"}

in the file start.sh, just under the line:
^{export HOME=/ezxlocal/root}

and its all, now it will work well from phone. you can play with the values, lower values bigger icons and fonts.... for example
^{export QWS_DISPLAY="LinuxFb:mmWidth35:mmHeight44:0"}

will bring you bigger icons and fonts.

Men that's so cool i tested my sh and it ran nice but i had that problem (kind of weird cuz first time fonts were OK) but yours it's much better  8)
And yes it's kind of slow but it's also weird cuz sometimes it just speeds a little more, and i don't know why i'll try to keep testing this noon, hey you stole your little brother's E2??? jaja

Yup, try skipping those steps and if it doesn't work try putting the files again also rm ezxlocal/Qtopia this command removes the Qtopia folder, in that way it's to be created again  :-\

I tried it in mmca6. It works really fast when fully loaded. And I call it fully usable. Some lag spikes occur from time to time, but it is ok... (:

P.S. Tried to play the built in games, had some lag there. Networking works as well.

Just skip these two insmod steps. When you execute the last command give it a minute or two to load.

how long should I wait? I waited for about 5 minutes and it still doesnt work

if the tapi server message do not desapear it means that your phone is freeze, the message should appeare and then desapear in seconds, then qtopia will load, sometimes the message stays and the phone get freeze, i dont know why. maybe you should try to run it from telnet to see if there is an error message.

run it with telnet. It's ok for me when I run it from telnet  :P

But it's even better to use it has a .MPKG just need 2 icons even .JPG and a Qtopia.desktop file with some info inside

and 2 icons Qtopia_s.png and Qtopia.png, and the .lin script called Qtopia.lin

I have blackstorm firmware... but the qtopia doesn't work, it freezes my phone, I do by the two ways.

i have tried teh qtopia...
with mpkg file..
and i have finished to install the qtopia
and qtopia success to run

but very slow....
when i insert to menu at qtopia
until i have to take out my battery from the phone
because my phone getting hang...

i use 64MB swap memory and
free space of my sd card 350MB.
but qtopia still slow...

any body can solve problem
