Title: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: arctu on October 30, 2007, 03:28:33 am
Virtual Memory 1.1
By: Faruq aka arctu, based on lasly's vmemery source(from the sdk)

NEW! UPDATES [1.1]:
  • Changed the position of Exit button
  • Added autorun function*
* This software does not overwrite your start file. However, you are encouraged to backup your autorun.txt/startup.txt.
UPDATES [1.0]:
  • Supports up to 512MB swap. (But tested only till 256mb)
  • Now with progress bar when creating swap file.
  • No more need to restart program anymore.

Short info:
The software allows on-the-go creation of a swap file(4,8,16,32,64,128MB) and mount/unmount it. Why did I create it? Because it seems useful and somehow Lasly left the source in the SDK with the swap not able to be started.

Notes (IMPORTANT!):
  • This is my first QT software. =)
  • Might be buggy. If so, please report the bugs in this thread.
  • The bigger the swap file you use the more time it takes to create. However, once a swap file is created, it won't be recreated unless you opted to change the swap size.
  • The mpkg SHOULD only be installed on phone memory.
  • The software NEEDS root access.

very nice application bro

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: arctu on October 30, 2007, 08:05:12 am
hmm.. I had a hard time figuring out why lasly's code on starting the swap wouldn't work. most of the time i spent was use to make the swap generator work.

anyway, it's nice that you like it. please reply with known bugs or suggestions.

do you have enough space on your mem card? check on your memcard: x:/.memcache/swapfile. secondly, you need to install the software on the phone!.

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: saarakura on October 31, 2007, 06:16:00 pm
i have free space.... and i have installed on the phone.... i create de swapfile but i cant start it... ( mount)

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: huatz84 on October 31, 2007, 06:39:37 pm
First, install on phone then give root access...Run the virtual memory and set the size...Wait for a few seconds until it says finish..What firmware are U using? If U use firmware with Kaledoiscope patch,U can give root access by clicking Options, manage and run as root...Check your SD and see if .memcache is there...

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: arctu on October 31, 2007, 07:47:12 pm
@saarakura
weird. the only reason for it not mounting is only because you don't have root access or the swap file is not created properly. there shouldn't be any other reason.

what firmware are you using?

@saarakura
try checking in system status the 'Swap mem:' before and after you activate it............

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: error398 on November 01, 2007, 09:50:43 pm

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: error398 on November 04, 2007, 07:15:20 pm
Just add this code to autorun
Code:
swapon /mmc/mmca1/.memcache/swapfile

should i replace
Code:
swapon /dev/mmca5
to
Code:
swapon /mmc/mmca1/.memcache/swapfile

or just add only

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: keaglez on November 04, 2007, 10:32:43 pm
Add only... The /dev/mmca5 is swap partition, and this is swap file so they are different... ;)

Having the same problem as saarakura a few posts before...
can anyone help?

Title: Re: [E2] Virtual Memory
Post by: ptikjp on November 30, 2007, 08:22:09 am
I had to give the mpkg program root access first by going to OfficeTools -> My Tool Box
-> Phoneware Manager -> MPKG Manager
The I selected VMMemory
and the next box selected Root.
The hit close.
I had to restart my phone, then VMMemory worked fine.

With this version, you have to unmount the Virtual Memory before you can access memory card thru USB.
