Hey! Got my E2 2 days ago, after loosing my E398... brought it home, flashed Ultimate, then Kaleidoscope 0.01 alpha (found out it was alpha after flash... they should have been more specific on e2mod.com >:(), and now switched to Katze3 for comparison. Everything's very nice... except I have an issue:

When recording sound (movie mode or sound recorder), the speaker humms a bit (like static). I haven't noticed this in the other firmwares. Is this normal? Should I be worried? At least, I hope it's the speaker I'm hearing... The volume of the humming is quite low, I have to pay attention and move the phone about 1,5m from my ear to hear it, but still would like to know.

Also... please include copy/paste in the next release, if possible.

That's because they increased the microphone sensitivity for the sound recorder.

That could also explain another silly thing: with this FW, the people I talk to keep telling me they have an echo. I checked, it's true - Ultimate doesn't do this. I still want to run Katze3 (at least until Kaleidoscope turns final), so I guess I'd better start modding some more. This is a phone, after all... no use annoying the people I speak to. ;) So much for the "best sound" bit, I guess...  :-[

Yeah using ultimate there is no problem.

Just one to know in the samba in \system\usr\SYSqtapp\motosync in this folder should have a file or not bacause in ultimate there is a file the motosync file why in here there is none.

maybe its a bug.

@Adrian, You should adjust your profile and enable the quick reply, one thing else please post the startup.txt including the russian new stuff and also include on it the OC issue, and of course the place where to find the startup text or where to be add.

haaaaaaaa   i´ll try to fix that OC.lin bug... however me and M3 users havent found any bug... if u feel unconfortable with microfone sensitivity, u can change it yourself, i just modded output gains, not input...

if u have problems like fone crashing while u conect to the PC, it is bcoz of the swap, sometimes it happens sometimes it doesnt, just umount the SD!!!! thats for Ultimate, K2,K3,Self,NB,TheoneBeta. just imagin what eould happen if u take out a DDR RAM out of a PC while it is working... huh!

anyother bug??? not so far... though im workin on a K4RE_FinishTheFIght  (K: Katze 4 :4ztec (aztec) R: Reverse E: Engineering...  with the ilaunch... and the K4RE is about... i DONT K4RE about russians complains.. they work @ OPENezx.org it is OPEN!!!!! EZX!!!!!

Bugs I found so far:
- Battery life is awful.
- sometimes, with radio hidden, camera stops working, or the softbuttons appear in the center of the screen.
- random lockups - about 2/day. I need to trust my phone, and I'm missing calls like crazy.

This is the sixth day I've had this phone. 3 on Ultimate (none of the above bugs), 3 on Katze3. Going back to Ultimate. Sorry. Katze3 is faster, but not stabler, IMO.

I've back to [THE ONE BETA2] cause katze 3 is needing help, Adrian we can all here help you to make your best MP ever, just by making our requests.

maybe your stability bugs are incoming from the BP... try a reflash again and maybe use of a 46p BP

by the way... battery life is not awful, battery scale is different, just try to listen music at the highest volume, after u receive the low batt alert ;)

Well... I was on 46b with Katze3 (now on Ultimate with 48b). Tried reflashing katze3 from scratch - same things. :( I've even tried another memory card and no memory card at all (just to eliminate it from the ecuation). I don't think it's a hardware fault, because Ultimate runs fine. Just unlucky, I guess.

With a formatted battery (6 months old, gets about 4 days in a stock v360), on Katze3, I can get about 1/2 hours of music at max volume with the low batt alert before the phone dies.

I'll try katze4 when it gets out - I like your ideas, but the most important thing in a phone is reliability. Normally, I would build my own MP (like in my E398 days), but I don't have the time now.

mine lasts more than an hour and a half, believe me  i travel tooo much in a bus on my way to the school (2 hours) and then to my house again, i walk & run like an hour, i go biking like 2 hours, and i love to take photos, and SMSing... my friends keep taking fotos and transferring songs via bluetooth...

my phone is lasting two days with the brightnes at (1), network search at (low), no screensaver, and lowest timeouts...

my friends are sooo in love with my phone though they have all SonyEricssons... believe me i wouldn show off my fone if the Firmware was so unstable...

i charge the fone 4 hours, when i´m sleeping from 00:30 to 4:30 AM every two days... and thats enough for me, The W810 never made it for so loong while i had it, not either the e398, the E1, the L7, The V3i... none of them

OK, I just had to try Katze3 again!

Changes:
Upgraded from RDS Lite 2.7 to 3.6
Flashed 46B (from 48B needed for Ultimate)
Flashed Katze3 (no moddifications yet - but will adjust the sound, menu locations, skins, OC etc)
Memory card swap from 64 MB to 32 MB (still overkill, I know).

And presto... Only one lockup so far: In the morning, I had the alarm set. Instead of playing the mp3 assigned (cortana.mp3 ;)), the phone started vibrating continuously - after about 20-30s of vibrating, I shut it down - it responded to the long press on the power button, but not to other commands. Strange. I'll keep monitoring.

14th hour on Katze3 (again):
- 1 lockup
- battery meter at 70% (1h of radio, 30-40 mins of phone calls).
- can't seem to use all the functions in Desktop Manager, but that's OK (clock and date font size, 4x4 menu setting)

I keep everything set up for max power saving, just like you do.

As for the maintenance of the battery, for lithium ion it's better to have smaller, more frequent recharges than a full discharge-recharge cicle - but include a full cicle every 20-30 charges or so for callibration of the internal circuitry of the battery. Or at least that's what they teach in electronics class. You have a brief tutorial for lithium-ion at http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm - if impatient, scroll down to the guidelines, they're pretty good. I charge every evening and try to remember to disconnect when full - even if the circuitry is supposed to do that anyway.

The alarm thing happened again (see previous post), but with a twist: I had deactivated vibration, so after dismissing the alarm (a song from the memory card), the phone started playing another song from the memory card. Umm... :-\ It was exactly like hitting <next> in Media Finder. Again, I was able to turn off the phone without taking the battery out. Any ideas?

Right now (26 hours on Katze3) I got the low battery alarm and decided to recharge - mostly because I need the phone. When I'll have the time, I'll let it turn off by itself. In these 26 hours I had 90 mins of talking, 2 hours of music, one hour of radio, some messages, some internet browsing, a couple of pictures and about 30 mins of Asphalt 3 3D. It's much better than before. :)

That's the first thing I did... nope, no luck. But it doesn't happen all the time, and it doesn't bother me that much. Hey, if the alarm goes on with new songs even after I dismiss it (snooze works), I'm guaranteed to wake up! :D

Yes, but still, it drained fast. I use the (aprox) 100/200/300 OC for now, but if I get more freezes, I'll remove the OC. The freezes I experienced during my first time on Katze3 reminded me of a way-too-OCd' PC. Even if their type and factory rating is exactly the same, some processors handle overclocking better than others - it's a fact.

Well, the alarm thing and desktop manager thing don't bother me that much... but I've managed to kill the battery in about 4 hours of radio+Worms. Granted, it was a long road, with lots of signal loss, so the phone had to search and amplify all the time, i guess...

At first, I thought it was the battery, but using a new one (after a few charges/discharges, to format, of course) got me no extra mileage. Once, I just got the battery low signal, and when I tried to snap a picture using the flash, the phone died. :( Maybe it's something in my phone, but no one I know has this phone, as it's not available in my country - or any neighbouring countries - or much of Europe, for that matter. I had mine imported from China. :D It came branded with some singer dude named Jay Chou... couldn't wait to reflash! >:(

So I tried removing the OC. No result, except for games slowing down a bit... So now I'm using OC again...

Other bugs did not come back. Yay! :)

I'm happy with Katze3, but waiting for Katze4! I'll give you big posts to read after flashing that one too! :P

Please, remember that any piece of software needs testing and adjustments for it to work on EVERY hardware, even if it is only one configuration (in this case, ROKR E2). It depends on reflashes and full-flashes to see if a ROKR has any tidbit of some previous buggy version... Sometimes reflashing is the key, sometimes not...
There are to much factors to include at the time of reliability test. Every ROKR is a world! :P

I encounter the same problem with u ... after so many trial n error... I manage to RESTORE my contact n calendar.
Try to do this:-

1) Reflash you fone with ROKR ULTIMATE ( both sbf n shx)
2) copy your motosync folder from /usr/SYSqtapp/ to SD
3) Reflash with Katze3 AE
4) write this down in startup.txt mount --bind /mmc/mmca1/motosync/  /usr/SYStqapp/notosync/
5) put startup.txt in Unreognizable Files/my_favor/
6) restart your phone
Finally, try to RESTORE your data again.. ok dude.. time to break my fasting..hehhe LOL...

go to File Manager - System/ ezx_user / sysDatabase/ main.db     and the log XXXXX filee contains.... SMS, phone numbers, calendar entrysalmost everything....


copy them to your SD

after reflash, go to the same folder, erase everything in there... and copy the main,log files from the SD to the folder.. thats all

This Firmware only has .sbf file. Last time when I want to flash, I used The .shx followed by .sbf. This time I just flash using the .sbf file. My phone hang after the flashing process complete. What to do? The phone screen keep on displaying a Linux prompt and thats all. Please help coz I cant use my phone and it is new. pls.

@adrian when im using OC. lin in lynxsys n then activate the intel xscale my gprs connection is broken, i cant connect using opera n oni. To restore it i must reset my e2 then delete the gprs connection n make a new one. I've tried this twice n still the same.
Anybodi has the same problem or just me?

Yes, its like a Boot screen with a media player logo on its top right. its a colorful screen which each of its command will end with [OK] in green. I've tried to re-flash, but useless. The I've tried with ultimate again and all back to normal as before. Now I'm waiting for KATZE-4, and I hope in Katze-4 they have both .shx and .sbf file.

***1. Firsr review the flash file. When you unzip the archive usually you will find only two files - one is .shx and one is .sbf file. First you will flash the .shx and then you will flash the .sbf.

2. Turn off your phone. Press the Voice Key + Red Key. You will get the primary bootloader screen. Now start hitting  the voice key multiple times until the bootscreen text changes and you will see the secondary bootloader.

3. Connect your phone, open RSD Lite and flash your phone with the .shx file (in some firmwares there is only one .sbf file - choose it here)

4. After the flash is complete then you can turn your phone into the primary bootloader again and then flash it using RSD lite. Here you may need to follow additional instructions from the firmware post itself (like replacing some .smg files during the flash). However that is optional.****


According to this flashing tutorial, its say that if there is no .shx file, we can use the .sbf file at the point where it said (choose it here). I've followed exactly as it told but unfortunately my phone hanged.

And for my information, what is primary bootloader and secondary bootloader ? How to differentiate between them? Any screen shots pls.

I dont think we can take screenshot for this, but just take a note:
1. First bootloader, hold voice key and power key, this is first bootloader or we called AP.
2. Second bootloader, after entered first bootloader, press voice key again (maybe need multiple times) until screen changed. This is second bootloader or we can called BP.

Remember, always flash shx in second bootloader and sbf in first bootloader, whenever you have both or only one sbf..

1st bootloader is the screen popup after turn e2 off n push the red key (off key) + voice key (circle key in the upper right) together.
2nd bootloader appear when you press voice key again in the 1st bootloader.
U can read in modmymoto.com for full flashing guide.
@adrian i just find out if my gprs connection after using oni n then i restart my e2, i cant connect again even i used opera. But to fix this i must edit the gprs setting to erase the APN n fill it up again. After that i can connect again xD.
Pls help now i must maintain my e2 for not running out batt xD
