Title: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 11, 2008, 08:20:13 pm Look this tests!!!
Tests with HD Tune Pro (OMITTING THE LOWER SPEED VALUES, NOTHING TOO MUCH DIFERENT) 1.MY KINGMAX MICROSD 1GB (CAME WITH THE PHONE) >>ON USB<< File Size: 64 MB Block size and Read speed 1024 KB 8788 KB/s 2048 KB 8796 KB/s 4096 KB 8814 KB/s Block size and Write speed 256 KB 4426 KB/s 4096 KB 4474 KB/s 8192 KB 4498 KB/s >>ON ROKR E2 USB MASS STORAGE<< SEE ALL THESE LITTLE VALUES! IT'S REALLY BAD... File Size: 64 MB Block size and Read speed 1024 KB 1057 KB/s 2048 KB 977 KB/s 4096 KB 1041 KB/s Block size and Write speed 256 KB 1064 KB/s 4096 KB 1066 KB/s 8192 KB 1066 KB/s 2.THE SAME ON MY BLAZING FAST NEW MICROSD OCZ TRIFECTA 2GB 66X >>ON USB<< File Size: 64 MB Block size and Read speed 128 KB 18876 KB/s 2048 KB 18888 KB/s 4096 KB 18879 KB/s Block size and Write speed 64 KB 8917 KB/s 1024 KB 8969 KB/s 4096 KB 8920 KB/s >>ON ROKR E2 USB MASS STORAGE<< AGAIN, SEE ALL THESE LITTLE VALUES! IT'S REALLY BAD... File Size: 64 MB Block size and Read speed 128 KB 1057 KB/s 2048 KB 1058 KB/s 4096 KB 1063 KB/s Block size and Write speed 64 KB 1064 KB/s 1024 KB 1055 KB/s 4096 KB 1066 KB/s So, as you can see, no matter slow or fast is the card, it looks like that the speed is limited in something about 1066KB/s. But, the same cards plugged direct on the USB (MicroSD to SD/USB adapter from OCZ Trifecta Kit) the speeds go up to 18888 KB/s read and 8969 KB/s write. Conclusion: Use a card reader to transfer big files to the card, do not use the phone usb connection. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: arctu on June 12, 2008, 12:16:42 am Good job on your effort. +karma.
I know all along that the Transfer speed through mass storage is A LOT more slower than through a card reader. But I never bother to benchmark it.. Hehs.. Now I know that the speed is VERY slow. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: keaglez on June 12, 2008, 03:41:58 am Thanks for the test... :)
Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 12, 2008, 07:43:49 am I was very happy with my new "super-duper-fast-card" and did these tests.
Then I became very unhappy... Can I laught or I cry? :) I did a test with HDPARM (at rokr e2 shell: "busybox hdparm -tT /dev/mmca1") and I noticed a change do 2.2mb/s to 3.5mb/s with the new card. So I can say that to the system, It had a gain of speed. It's much faster to load a game on GBA emulator. So, worth the gain for the swap file. It's a talk of cost/benefit. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: Taurnil on June 13, 2008, 12:33:44 pm wow, now I can't stop thinking about a 150x SD card... WOOT!
Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 13, 2008, 12:39:42 pm Only 36MB/s read and 18MB/s write... Wow, it's amazing!
Here in Brazil things like ultra-speed cards, gadgets, and these geek things is hard to find, and cost much more than is USA. But for the rokr e2 there isn't so much difference, the speeds change like plus 1mb/s, 1,5mb/s... Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: keaglez on June 13, 2008, 02:02:01 pm My 60x card can get maximum 3,3mb/s on hdparm test... :) Not bad...

Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: irman5490 on June 14, 2008, 07:31:43 am I disagree... Using phone usb is a lot of faster than using Card Reader. Im using kingston SD 2GB.

Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 15, 2008, 05:03:32 am So, post your results. Maybe you modded/stock firmware is somehow faster than ours.
I did these tests with HD Tune Pro and with Sandra with 3 different cards. I'll try to post the graphics later. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: pizzadox619 on June 16, 2008, 06:22:14 am maybe your problem came from your 'kingmax'
e2's USB speed is fast Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 16, 2008, 08:33:56 am No, I tested my Kingmax and my OCZ Trifecta 66x. Both speeds are equal, limited at 1066KB/s on Rokr E2 Mass Storage mode.
Post your tests. I only believe in numbers/graphics. ;) See my graphics: microSD Kingmax 1GB plugged on USB (via adapter, not reader) (http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/9512/bench01ui5.png) microSD Kingmax 1GB on Rokr E2 (mass storage) (http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/8585/bench02of5.png) microSD OCZ Trifecta 2GB 66x speed plugged on USB (via adapter, not reader) (http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/687/bench03ta0.png) microSD OCZ Trifecta 2GB 66x speed on Rokr E2 (mass storage) (http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/6121/bench04aw4.png) ######################################################## The graphs tells you everything. You can see the tests attached in this reply. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: irman5490 on June 17, 2008, 07:40:09 am I think its the USB port. Im always using the back USB port than the front one. I will try to get the software to benchmark the SD card on next week after I buy a new hard disc. Things got really mess up with motorola modding files.
Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 17, 2008, 07:38:55 pm Maybe. I tested with Rokr Ultimate Firmware, no OC, no kaleidoscope.
I tested on front/back USB 2.0 ports, new motherboard, same speed. My PC specs for doubts: -AMD Athlon64 3800+ -Motherboard Asus A8N-SLI-SE -ATI Radeon x800 XL 256MB GDDR3 -120GB+250GB SATA Disks -2GB DDR400 Kingston in Dual Channel Mode -Windows XP PRO The specs are very very good, although it's not dualcore. Put your tests here, I wish I'm wrong. (But seems not...) Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: pizzadox619 on June 18, 2008, 03:30:35 am use nokia microSD + Adapter + E2. btw i will buy 2GB ASAP
Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 18, 2008, 07:32:31 am Post your phone config (firmware, kernel, swap file, etc...)
I'm turning my phone back to the factory config (firmware, etc.) for comparisons. I have the original branded firmware from motorola (45p)! Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: Exploited on June 18, 2008, 07:55:46 am that's a nice access time
Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 18, 2008, 08:55:17 am Seems that we have a problem with modded firmwares!
I flash my phone to original unmodded firmware, and for my surprise: (http://img79.imageshack.us/img79/8393/bench05ll2.png) (http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/1041/bench06uw8.png) ############################################# Still limited, but very far better. Still not the 18Mb/s for the card direct plugged on USB, but better than before. Firmware modders, we have a job. ;) Why this happens? Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 18, 2008, 07:22:59 pm I found. The problem is the modded firmwares like the ilove3d_Kernel_v1, one I did myself and maybe all others.
Look at this when I flashed only the modded kernel (kernel reflash): (http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/9346/bench07pg3.png) A horrible 1MB/s again. Looks like the problem is not the modded firmwares, but the modded kernels. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: pizzadox619 on June 19, 2008, 06:11:19 am i use maxx e2 without swap & oc
so we can know, the trouble came from ilove3d_Kernel_v1 Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 19, 2008, 08:00:11 am I can make the E2 kernel too, and my kernel (you can call it vhugobr_kernel_v1) is almost identical to the ilove3d kernel, with this same bug.
I don't know why this happens. I'll do some research and post here later. I am planning to do a unmodded kernel reflash, so wait a bit more... Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 19, 2008, 11:33:48 am Great news!
I found the bug responsible for the limitation of 1MB/s speeds. It can be found on the ilove3d kernel v1 and dimichxp kernel. Conditions: 1. This bug can appear if you have flashed your phone with a monsterpack with a modded firmware; 2. This bug can appear if you have flashed your phone with a modded kernel, even if you have a stock firmware; 3. Maybe other conditions that involves a buggy RDL3 (the cause of the problem). This bug can be corrected by replacing the buggy RDL3 on the SBF by one "unbugged". I am preparing some kernel options like a corrected ilove3d, dimichxp and a new one made by me :) I'll do some tests and post here ASAP. Don't know if you have this bug? Use the HD Tune Pro 3.00 (Trial) and do the "Benchmark" test on "read" mode selected. Title: Re: [E2] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 19, 2008, 03:17:09 pm First of all:
I'm not responsible for damages on your phone, use this files at your own risk. For those who are interested in this bux fix: 1. ilove3d Kernel V1 http://www.4shared.com/file/51986919/e26f701a/CORRECTED_ilove3d_Kernel_01.html (http://www.4shared.com/file/51986919/e26f701a/CORRECTED_ilove3d_Kernel_01.html) 2.Dimichxp Kernel http://www.4shared.com/file/51987550/4e7993bb/CORRECTED_Kernel_Dimichxp.html (http://www.4shared.com/file/51987550/4e7993bb/CORRECTED_Kernel_Dimichxp.html) I tested this two files on my phone. It's working as before but now with better transfer rates. If I didn't say before: Test your mass storage with HD Tune Pro 3.00 Trial, if read speed is about 1MB/s, I recommend this bugfix. Good Luck and happy motomodding! Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: fich on June 19, 2008, 07:06:47 pm is it good if applied to any MP?
Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 19, 2008, 07:17:43 pm I applied this to my stock 45p firmware and on the Rokr Ultimate and worked fine.
It's like any other kernel mod. It only change the CG33 (the firmware part) and the RDL3 (something hardware related). Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: Taurnil on June 19, 2008, 09:46:17 pm thanks for your hard work. K++++
Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: BlinK_ on June 19, 2008, 09:57:36 pm I'm on MAXX E2 MP and I don't have this problem. I guess MAXX E2 doesn't use modified kernel.
How did you fix these kernels? Did you compile them by yourself? Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: Polar_BearXL on June 20, 2008, 01:58:15 am Can someone tell me, which kernel that i have to take if i got Maxx E2, i'm not into this kernel modding
Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 20, 2008, 06:03:41 am Blink_: The cause of the problem was a buggy RDL3. If you have multikeypress, swap, ext2, ext3, easy apmd or sd 4gb fix, you have the modded firmware. But if you don't have the 1MB/s problem, maybe on the creation of th MP the author, without knowing, replaced for the correct RDL3.
Polar_BearXL: I don't use this MP, ask the creator or read the MP post page here in motohell. It's probably the ilove3d one. BUT BE CAREFUL!!! Change if you have the bug. People who tested, please reply if it's working ok. I want to know to post the files here in the right section. Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: NestorM on June 20, 2008, 05:21:23 pm MAXX E2 II have ilove3d kernel V3--navOK integrated.
Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: fich on June 20, 2008, 06:40:53 pm this is my V-Gen 2GB microSD + adapter + E2 BlackStorm non Kalei
(http://img47.imageshack.us/img47/6550/vgen2gbbsnonkaleipx0.png) so I dont need that corrected kernel, right? ;) Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: vhugobr on June 20, 2008, 07:19:01 pm No you don't have to apply. Your transfer is at 6.9MB/s average. The error is if the speed is limited at 1MB/s.
Title: Re: [E2][BUGFIX INSIDE] Transfer speeds banchmark. Ohh my God, it's bad! Post by: Polar_BearXL on June 20, 2008, 08:26:06 pm For those who use Maxx E2 kalei, you don't need to change anything, i got a about 6,9mb/s, i think it's quite normal, by the way, i think there is a great speed impact if you got it 6MB/s rather then 1MB/s i used to use Katze 2, and it's sooo slow.
