Moto Hell - The Motorola Modding Community

Hello… This is the first modified firmware based completely on the last stock fw that Motorola launched (R564_G_12.00.49P). This time I decided to start from the beginning because some modified fw are even slower than the stock. This is a sign that something is wrong so I have to start from the beginning to see what elements are causing this loss of speed. Black Storm is carefully compiled to get the best performance and stability so far

It is dedicated to English and Spanish users (the name and language of extra applications are automatically adapted to English or Spanish language). There are two versions, the standard one and other with kaledoiscope


The main advantages are:

• Loading of applications are up to 100% faster in comparison with previous fw (only version without kaledoiscope)
• Fixed problem that in previous firmware the message service weren´t loaded at the beginning. This was the reason I lost many messages, one of the main motives for which I decided to do this fw
• Possibility to use the telephone without the SIM card
• Skins can be loaded in SD
• The music is played smoothly. There are not annoying clips
• Correction of media player. Now it is possible to see all type of signs!!! It has also a softer displacement in the menus
• You can use the radio without earphones!!
• Synchronization with Motorola Phone Tools
• Voice recognition included. Reading the message
• Intel Xcale tool to make real-time underclocking/overclocking
• Application to rename pictures with graphic menu (fotoren). It changes the name of the moto_ * picture to the following form: yyyy-mm-dd_hh.mm.ss.jpg
• SD Manager completely redesigned. Much more efficient!
• New program: Skin Manager
• Camera with zoom up to 8x
• Tap writing method improved
• Incremented volume
•New ringtones
• The low battery annoying sound were replaced with a vibration
• ilove3d Kernel v1 (ext2 and ext3 support, multiple keypress)

VR replace: to replace the voice key function. Two programs can be linked to this key because it includes short and long pressure

• Possibility to change the voice commands easily!!! You should put on the file "command" that is in this download, inside the folder my_favor.
• Skins: OP, Revolution, Alkali (stock)
• MotoID working and stock games
• Descompresor of rar; zip; tar; tar.gz files
• My_FAVOR automatically executes:
   apmd (to make overcloking/underclocking)
              myfont.ttf (to change the font of the skin)

• In both versions there are not support for squash files system as proved to be an average of 15% slower

Hey mati77! Thanks for the release! I just got home from an all-night drinking marathon. Still ain't sleepy so i turned on my PC and went straight here to Motohell! and i found this new firmware! Even though i'm still a bit woozy from the drinking, after downloading Black Storm i'll be testing it immediately.

I'll be installing the non-kaleidescope Black Storm on top of my MAXX E2 II kaleidescope. Posting results and performance/speed comparison after. Wish me luck!

(btw, the VR Menu in MAXX II was a nice feature. Hope it's also included here. hehe. But i see that VR Replace is already included. Good to know we can modify the key binding to our own liking)

after I flash FW. I begin flash language (LP0021). flash completed but my mobile is struck while open mobile.

What do u mean u're phone get freeze after startup?
I flashed my phone with lp0021 and got that freeze problem but only when typing sms..
Try to set off 'learned my word' and 'offer complete' option on set prediction menu..
I'ts ok with my phone
and i get bahasa indonesia on my phone now..

for other language please use language pack that are in http://www.e2mod.com/content/category/4/23/31/ (http://www.e2mod.com/content/category/4/23/31/). don't use extreme language pack's

I think you've flashed Titanium-based LP to your phone. Try the standard one.
I just flashed this f/w and LP0021 standard, it works fine.

This f/w won't lock your phone.
But the kalei version doesn't support MPT (as the MP creator said), so I choose the non-kalei.

isn't it! Try kaleidoscope version, I think MAXX II is more fast with kaleidoscope.

time to load calendar:

Titanium Xtreme II --> 2.30 seg
Maxx II -------------> 2.25 seg
Black Storm Kaled.---> 2.00 seg
Experiment v2-------> 1.30 seg
Black Storm---------> 0.75 seg

The Black Storm mentioned here in your speed comparison is the kalei version or is it the non-kalei version? :) Im using the non-kalei BS and if the kalei version doesnt have a significant slow down compared to the non-kalei version, then i might switch to it. (Coz i sometimes miss the task manager. hehe.)

I have flashed my E2 with Black Storm Kalei version and I can tell U that it's so fast comparing with Maxx II.I think it has the same speed with Maxx II.No more crashing in typing sms...:)

the kaleid version doesnt seem to be fast as reported.. its the usual kaleid speed. :((
one thing which I dislike about this firmware is.. it doesnt support first.txt. >.< you might want to add that in the next firmware.

Please, anybody know how to use the soft lock mpkg that @Matti published with Black Storm pack. I installed it on phone and try to run but nothing happens. Giving it root permissions not make any change. I only need soft lock but I don't want kaleidescop. 

i'm facing problem with memory card problem with this fw....i can't copy files to memory card,,,shows i/o error....what's wrong??????????

Verify that you are not using linksys...

After 2 days with non-kalei version, I switched to kalei one.
Seems faster. No problem so far.

hey..i can't access my gmail from blackstorm...i could do that from previousely used fw...

anyone having problem with the text entry? in phonebook i can't search using alphabet, i can only search using number and symbols. Then sim service i can't switch the text entry mode, i can only search using number

Hello. Great Fw. Congratulations. One question... The data connections from personal are blocked and i can1t remove them... How can i do that? Thank you.

Connect your phone to PC through usbNet mode..use samba and go to /ezxlocal/download/appwrite/NetProfile and delete the file..

I like this f/w coz it's fast.. But i like fast menu on maxx 2 so i made a fast menu adapt for blackstorm.. Install the apps..set it to root..and enjoy..
U can use it with vr-Replace..so the fast menu apps will appears when u click the voice button..just like maxx 2..

This FW give me about 1mb free Ram, is there any way to increase it? i mean, after all, i think it's faster if we have about 10mb free ram then tons of swap, i mean, if i wasn't wrong, E2 have about 48mb Ram, and we only got i mb for us? even the processor runs at 300mhz speed, it won't be enough if there's only 1mb Ram isn't?

This fw have an amazing speed.. I think the fastest fw that i ever try. I have compare with maxx and maxx2. But one annoying thing in this fw. Blackstorm dont have a fast and no lagging in writing text when i use sms. I very like the fast writing text in maxx, both of maxx version very fast in writing sms. Why black storm cant like maxx. I hope one day the author can update the blackstorm version with the better function. Keep e2 rockz. Hehe..

I just open 6-8 ezxapps such as bluetooth,network etc at the same time then kill it ;)

Well, last time i got about 10 free, but my swap was quite filled up. well, what did you feel? any different with bigger free memory?

I can load 16mb game on gbax less than 10s...

But still don't know how to make it permanent so we don't need swap anymore...

Coz i think 10mb free ram is faster than 32mb swap..

Well my first post in the forum, i've been thinking about flashing my rokr with this FW, after a few days i do it (replacing Titanium Edition) after the flash finished my phone restarted and everything seams ok...till Invalid Battery messages show up :S now i cannot use my phone, i've been searching for a solution, one is to Repair PDS i looks something too risky form, other say taht with a downgrad of the boot it ill be solved... anyone with this problem??? Help! please!!!

Try to delete all ur alarms and create a new one....

The alarm goes off if you charge your phone, it won't ring at all if you plugged in the phone to the charger, i think that's your problem, since mine was that.

Well i think that must solve it by myself, today i'm going to a fruiend of mine that have many boxes, i hope that it will be solved with a PDS repair or a imei change, 'cause it looks like the ime have been changed with the flash :S, hope not (crossing fingers), i'll let you know how i solved it.

Ok, finally i've solved the problem. Test Point -> PDS Repair -> Full Flash -> Black Storm jeje, and everything was ok. I used the SmartClip for repairing the PDS (The E2 isn't in the list but with the E6 it worked as expected) well now i have the Black Storm on my Rokr it's a great FW!!! But the uBackup doesn't work as expected :S so i cannot restore my configs =( anyway ill see it later.

i'm currently using blackstorm for e2.i bought a 2gb sd card for e2 but my phone can't load this memory card at startup...i have to manually remove it and then insert it again to get memory card access from phone.how can i solve this problem???please felp me out!!!

pull out ur SD Card.. turn off ur phone.. then insert ur SD Card first before turn on the phone.. it might work!

Minor bug: Alarm clock don't work if the frequency is set to Mon-Fri.

another bug : my battery only last one day with this FW, while it can stand for 2-3 day on another FW.

it's not a firmware problem... probably you are using intel xscale with underclocking apmd. in my experience it last one day with apmd of 52-104-208. so i think this apmd or others could be causing poor batery life.

i recomend you to use original apmd (104-208-312). mi batery life was 2.5 with it and 2 days with black storm apmd (208-312-416).

remember that not all apmds in the pack or intel xscale were proved to be stable. i didn't create the apmd pack so i don't know which one is bad. you might try and experiment to find the best one


other common problem is that your battery could be damaged. a lot of people have this problem and it is because motorola bt-50 is a very bad battery. other cell phones with this battery have this problem too....  it is damaged if it get bigger

Is this firmware really effective because i downloaded the phoneware manager from e2modders.com but it never worked...I would really like to know what version of the E2 it works on and what type of application it is eg.Mpkg or what ever. i'm not very familiar with this stuff because this is the first time i'll be downloading firmware...

Does anyone know if the M-F alarm clock issue still exists for the Aug -2- 2008 posted firmware?  Id like to try this but without this I am losing very big functionality.

I think its ok now. I dont know what happened but its running perfectly now.Just let your phone run for about 24 hours and the alarm bug will disappear.

hi can anyone put attach the volume table of this monster pack to the forum? I think when I did a backup restore flash it reverted back to the original volume table. I think the original of this monster pack is louder.

Thank you for a fantastic monster pack.  I have found a very little bug:

When you have a number that uses the INSERT # tag, the box that appears to enter in the remaining number has a black background and the font is black so you can't see what is being written. But all works fine.

The battery life suggestion with the AMPD stock works great. My phone used to need to be charged every 8hours or so ... since I changed the ampd to the stock one, its lasted so much longer.

This fw is excellent it also supports  non extreme Aio  lang pack...

About the VR replace program in black storm  i see it is limited to some functions only .. how to make it extend to sum all installed programs and applications like shortcut key on the disk top?

Does anyone know how to have your phone book list the numbers as well as the contact information? I have duplicate name entries with different numbers, i'd like to be able to open up my phone book and distinguish the entries without going into the edit menu.

I have reflashed my E2 by blackstorm. After flashing mobile is not able get network.
It will be always in searching or no service mode. I am not sure whether this is due to new firmware.
The same sim card is working fine in other mobiles.

Can any one in this form provide me solution for this problem?

you can't.
Just make another connection...

You need install the flex corresponding to you operator frec, look inside the package, is there a file named 1900-850 or something. --- flash those files corresponding to your operator.

I think also the apmd plays an important role in battery life..i used 104-312-512 apmd for along time ago and lately changed to 312-416-512 one i can say the second one is more effective and faster with longer battery life and of course with black storm fw.

Does anyone have any idea why sometimes the messaging service needs to be started up manually when I start the phone? I have to actually go into the messages box and watch the phone load or initialize each and every time I turn off my phone.

Erm, the phone book search bug still not resolved. Still cannot search using alphabets.
I'm only able to search it using numbers or symbols.

Is any other of you all are facing the same things?

I have flash my e2 with this fw.kalei.
I like the task and submenu. But my media finder can'T refresh media list. Until the battery empty, it still search media. Anyone know to solve this problem? Or because i installed rockbox? Pls help me

This FW its great, my battery have a longer life, the sound quality is great but i change with katze3 volume table and its amazing, light and fast, stable, only a little problem with rockbox and zmplayer, somehow i cant install font in my favor, and anobody know how to turn off screensaver?

I notice that the emergency dial background is black as are the numbers so you cannot see what your dialing when dialing an emergency number with the keys locked. Just lock your keys and push 9 and you will see what i mean.

ugh..when i try uninstall Mpkg or java my phone hangs, i reflash it and its still hangs...

web browser not function...why?? have to use opera mini to browse,but i cant download from phone...help plizzz??

in my experience i think you are using "intel xscale" with underclocking apmd. It's may crash the clock alarm. So i recomend u to use original apmd (104-208-312) or black storm apmd (208-312-416). and the bug will fix far that i can tell.

p/S: i found that intel xscale may crash the " light control " ^^! so i change to (208-312-416) and the bug is fixed ^^!

i Have a problem that my e2 can't connect using Memory Card !

Are u using a skin installed on ur sd? if yes use any skin installed on ur phone memory if no try to use p2kdrivers to install sd drivers on ur pc..

I have new problem in SMS inbox.
My text corlou is in black and the back ground is too T_T .  i can't see any text form my text message. How can i change the text corlou to white ?

you simply can't change the colour in massage. so just edit the skin or change the skin.

install autorun manager and check autorun process you want (font) ;)

Having a bug which doesnt let me copy my sim memory to my phonebook and doesnt let sync with my phone tools software

Dunno about the sim copy problem, but FYI, most Monster pack can't sync with Motorola Phone Tools, that's normal
