Hi everyone, i have problems with my e398, when trying to turn it on, i only get the lights from the keyboard and after 20 seconds nothing happens. I can turn it on by pressing * #, and i get a message Boot Loader 07.90, SW Version: Not Found. I hv tried to upload a new monsterpack with Flash backup, and apparently everything is ok, but when trying to turn it on, i get the same result.

First of all do a full backup!

try flashing this mp
(the 42R_for_all transforms your phone from r372 to r373 and also has some more things in the shx than normal monster packs)
after flashing it the phone will be in half russian half english but don't worry.. after flashing an mp from those presented in the forum it will be allright. and also you will lose you bluetooth adress but i can say to you how to repair it.

if you can power on your phone after flashing this, flash any mp that you want from this forum and it will be ok.

1st. Flashing the mp
2nd. If it works, make backup
3rd. Flashing any mp

no no... me and EOG ment to say that you should make a backup before flashing anything
of course you make a backup after flashing that if it works but you must make a full backup before flashing it too... it's much safer... you never know what happens wrong

Ok, I´ll follow your instructions. One more question i´m using PST 7.1.1 to flash my phone and i´m running it under windows vista, do u think there might be a problem with this combination? I hv tried to use other p2k programs in this OS but i get error messages all the time.

you probably need to change your bootloader
i've never done a bootloader change so i'm not sure i can help you with that

and i think you should use the old windows xp... i tell you... it's much better for the moment... maybe after 1-2 years it will be good to use vista.

to flash anything you need p2k programs. i've never flashed my phone in other way. just through RSD Lite or Flash Backup 2.62 or 3

It is a e398 bootloader but it's the old one not the oldest but old. maybe it does not support neo firmwared(R49,R46,etc.)

i agree EOG but that "PST 7.1.1" uses p2k or not?

Ok, I flash the phone with the mp you suggested and all the checksums matched. I can´t use rsd lite with windows vista (i tried and couldn´t install it). I´ll try to change the bootloader to 0.7D0, i´ll let u know how it worked.

be careful with the bootloader flashing process because if something goes wrong you'll have to do test point so do a backup before... good luck

Hi BruceLee, I found out how to change bootloader to 0.7D0, but now when trying to power up I get the screen as if i had pressed * # ON, but this time there is no back light and the letters appear upside down (i had to turn the phone upside down and used a mirror to figure out what was on the screen).
When I tried to go back to my previous bootloader I got nothing but error messages.

Bro,you need not worry about which bootloader you have on your E398.. Now.if you have full backup,restore it.. It will contain your bootloader too

I hv tried to do so, the problem is that when i´m trying to restore it the phone turns off almost inmediately. I tried even doing test point and nothing. I´m trying to install repstudio, but i hv the same problem of incompatibility with windows vista, i guess i´ll need to wait to hv access to a pc with XP. I do appreciate your help man.

the problem is you are using windows vista because all modding program only works under windows xp

i use vista to.i never get problem with p2k programs.i use fb3.0.5.that i was register.ur phone wont start.maybe ur PC.try to flash other pc.or ur driver p2k not work properly.try to handsetmotorola driver from gayoe esnips.thanks

Thnx Matrice, I can use fb 3.0.05 under vista and some p2k programs, for instance i can´t install repstudio. Flashing the phone over and over hasn´t solved my problem. It continues starting on boot mode with the letters backwards and upside down.

try restoring your fullbackup

I found the same case before. I guess it caused by your broken PDS.
I think you should install windows XP to run MRS for repairing your phone's PDS first.
After repairing PDS, try to flash 42R_for all (full version), then install an MP. It worked for me before :) :)

I tried restoring my fb but didn´t work, I guess i´ll hv to install xp to try repstudio. What is MRS? Does anyone know where can i download a stock fullbackup to give it a try?

MRS stands for Motorola Repair Studio (same with repstudio LOL).
I think if you already get your PDS fixed, you can flash your flash your full backup. So you don't need stock firmware to give it a try.

I´ll try to remember that, thnx for the info. Actually I haven´t been able to fix my pds, so if you know where can I get a full backup from any E398 i will appreciate it. Thnx in advance

Hi everyone, i fix the problem of having the letters backwards and upside down, i used p2k easytools, using the unlock function also makes the bootloader downgrade. I had another issue, a low battery, in some forums i found that using a old 4.5 V charger having cut the cables i attached the positive and negative to respective cells directly to the battery, and after 2 hours the battery was fully charged.

My problem is that now I can only turn on the phone on boot mode Boot Loader 0.7.DO, SW  Version R373_G_0E.30.42R. And i can´t make it work.

if you can enter bootloader menu try flash MP

I just tried and didn´t work, so i tried to repair it using Repstudio, apparently it did work. After flashing the MP i can´t turn the phone on, not even on boot mode

if you still don't find any good method you can try a test point. (i never did that but i think THIS (http://e398essentials.wikispaces.com/Testpoint) tutorial is quite good)

I tried to follow the instructions, and i hv to make a backup my pds so i create a new one. They recommend doing it with flashbackup 1.87 but i can´t find it, i´m using 2.62 version but i receive the message "Your phone is not supported". With version 3 there are no options to make a pds backup. So i´m still screwed.

i never needed tp my phone so i don't really know what programs you need.. i'm trying to find that fb 1.87 for you.. at least that i can do

I followed the instructions described in (http://e398essentials.wikispaces.com/R373_TO_R372_PDS_Conversion) since i was taken to it from the "topic E398 Survival and Revive at www.motomodders.net" recommended by MotoManiacs.
My problem was that i had a broken pds, thnx God I had a backup in an old coworker computer, and following the instructions now 4 the first time in a while my E398 turned on normally.

I can´t thank enough to you guys BruceLee, MotoManicas, are_goenk and Matrice for helping me out.

yes, you can´t describe the feeling. Now the only problem I have is that is a little unstable, sometimes it starts ok and ocasionally all i get is the keyboard lights.

so after you created R372 PDS you did not flashed a R373 monsterpack?

Ok, i´ll do that. One question, does e398 monsterpacks, gaintables, languaje packs, etc. for E398 will still apply for a E398 converted to ROKR?

1. CG1   >> Firmware
2. CG2   >> Flex
3. CG3   >> DSP
4. CG4   >> Language Pack
5. CG15 >> DRM

The e398 Original which didnt have flashed yet is still on R372 after it has flashed to ROKR the firmware change to R373
So that mean you cant flash R372 Files into R373 unless you want to bricke your phone again

don't try r372 firmwares on r373.. you will have to repair again the phone..
just choose any monster pack that you like from this forum or e398.com or any reliable source and flash it.

i use the fixed version of rgf (fixed mms and photo store) and i have no problem.. in my opinion it's one of the best monster packs i've tryed.. but others could say something else (each of us likes another mp) so it's up to you to choose 1 mp that you like.

I just used MotoMusiq 1.0 and its ok. I´ll give a try to the one you are using.
What about the one called "Elektro", it seems to be quite popular, i just downloaded it but there are no fsw, shx, sbf files, there is one with extension bin though.

its good to know that there is a way to bring re-alive the phone.. e398 never dies..

..but my problem is with my ROKR ..when i try flash it with motolovers03-46 R..my phone is failure to restart...

my ROKR is trapped in bootloader.... it say "PHONE CODE SIG ERROR !" what should i do... is my phone dead...??

i try to re-flash with flashbackup3 but....the IMEI was gone...flashbackup didnt read my IMEI.. it says bootloader 0A.02 firmware/sw ver. : R373_G_0E.30.79R (my original ROKR sw)...but the flex is Motolovers03...and withiut IMEI.... my BL is

According to my recently gained experience your PDS might be corrupted if u have any pds backup u made when the phone was working u should restore it and now it should be ready for u to flash a stable monsterpack.

the elektro255 firmware is very good also because it has many things improved and also has some java things that original firmwares don't have.
I don't really remember the link but i know elektro255 has a web page. I'll search it and give you the link.. It says there what improvements contain those firmwares he developed

I just saw the website but i can´t find a tutorial about how to flash this MP, I know I can flash bin files using SmartCyclone but i´m not sure that is the right way.

I dunno why you want to flash elektro firmwares.. They are famous coz they are the first modded firmwares. But you could get lot more than that using all the latest available patches. 49R has the largest number of patches. Try Motolovers 3 by gayoe..

yea 49R rocks and its bug free ... so motoroto go for this one. .. happy and safe flashing.. :)

i guess your original f/w of rokr is 79R and there's no chance to flash any 4xr unless you had edited the cg1

I do remember i flashed a MP months ago (I dont remember which one though), but it had a cool feature. It was some sort of "side bar" that appears from the left. Has anybody seen that one?

I don´t know if that was only a cool skin on the mp.

I prefer install the corelets on phones memory (i never tryed to install corelets on trans flash). I prefer so because if i must use my memory card to other devices such as the digital camera i'll have no corelet in my phone. So i have all my programs on phones memory and all the games on tf card.
But you can install it where you want. It's your choice.

I installed it on both (phone and trans) but didn`t work i always get the  "Application Error" message

still can go to bootloader menu...??? the simple way i could suggest you is to reflash  mp again then install the mediaviewer using motomidman.. make sure the attribute is corelet

I just installed RGF where the mediaviewer is preloaded and I hv the same result. I try to open Mediaviewer and nothing appears. How do i check if the attribute is corelet?

So i supposed the jar file should be in the same folder as the jad, I downloaded the 0.35b version (jad and jar file) the installation worked, I but when i try to run it on the phone it does nothing at all. Is not like i can´t use the phone without it but is a cool feature.

Yes the JAR and JAD files must be in the same folder... I don't know which is the 0.35b version but i tell you that i used the upper attached media viewer for about 3-4 months and i'm still using it because i like it more than itunes or vc.


I also made a small tutorial for running the corelet:

If you have multi corelet:
 - You must kill the curent corelet and go to java menu and hit the mediaviewer app...
 - Wait a few seconds (about 5 or 10 - as you wish)
 - Hit the power button (just hit it don't press it for a long time... it's just for exiting the java menu)
 - Go to multimedia and enter the corelet  and wait again a bit(optional)

If you have single corelet:
 - Just power your phone and the corelet will automaticaly run after a while

with that plugin you can also have battery and signal metters as nokia.. but it 'eats' some of your battery

Thanx man I understood your small tutorial, I just want to make sure what should I understand by "killing" the current corelet? Is it different from "not running"? (btw itunes is not running when i have tried to run mediaviewer.)

I guess the itunes and the mediaviewer are both corelet, am i wrong? Should there be only one java set as corelet?

if you have 2 of them it means you have multi corelet so you must unload itunes (this is what i ment when i said "kill") and run mv as i explained in the tutorial. To unload itunes you can press "0" while you are in itunes (it works for some versions) or go to menu and hit "unload itunes".

(it's normal to have both corelets setted as 'corelet'. if one of them is not setted as corelet then you have no longer multi corelet.. just one corelet.. and when you'll try to run from the java menu the corelet that's not setted as "corelet" you'll see the "Application Error" message)
