Title: The three switches problem Post by: Exploited on October 03, 2007, 07:56:03 am I got a real problem that time:
I was in the basement of my house, where I have three lights switches. I can play to turn them on and off as many times I want. However only one of the switches really works - it turns the light on the upper floor. Unfortunately I cannot see if the light is on or off from the basement. That's too sad, because I am too lazy to go upstairs many times for checks. The turns of this problem is - how can I know 100% which switch exactly is turning the lights on upstairs if I can go up only once! That means - I have all switches off, I play with them as many as I want, then I get upstairs and no matter if the light is on or off - I can say "switch X" is the one! |------------------------ | | | light-> O 1st floor | | | | |------------------------ | ME-> O S: 1 2 3 | /||\ | | | Basement: | / || \ P P P | / | | / | |------------------------ Title: Re: The three switches problem Post by: Jithin on October 03, 2007, 09:22:34 am I got this one :)

Title: Re: The three switches problem Post by: Exploited on October 04, 2007, 05:02:19 am Ok I see not much interest in that game, so I will reveal the answer :)
0. Turn all switches OFF and wait for couple of minutes 1. Turn switch 1 ON and wait 1-2 minutes 2. Turn switch 1 OFF 3. Turn switch 2 ON 4. Go upstairs Now if the lights are ON - then it is switch 2 (both of the other switches are OFF). If the lights are OFF - touch the electric bulb: - If it is hot then it is switch 1 (the lights was enabled for few minutes hehe) - If it is not hot - it is switch 3 :) Title: Re: The three switches problem Post by: Jithin on October 04, 2007, 05:05:35 am No surprise :)
