Title: partitioning the SD card on the phone ( GUI app )
Post by: ilove3d on July 16, 2007, 07:24:13 pm
I wrote a simple shell script to split the SD card easily on the phone

it only fits for the versions below:

ilove3d-48p-Ultimate
ilove3d-48p-Self V2
ilove3d-46p-NewBeginning

you can simply put this script on your phone memory ( but not on SD card )

do backup the SD card, you know partitioning will swipe out everything on your SD card

click on the script, and just follow the prompt, input your partitioning preference

it will do the things for you

( remove the .txt tail of the file )

ilove3d, can you write another script that will delete these partitions(ext3 & swap) and makes only one partition fat 16?
For people, on whose phones this script don't works: download program named notepad ++, open script with it, convert to unix encoding and save it.
P.S. Excuse me for my bad English.

stil dnt wrk i even went to only u,i think it needs to be in mkpg format dat wud be easiest btw only u firmware is so much faster dan ultimate to me i also notice wat causes music skips it seems that the less stuff u gots on ur internal mem the faster it is,cuz i was usin ubuntu skin and i never deleted any of the default skins(all good well 2 outta 3 luv da aten and crystal blue) and it was skippin in almost every song, wen i went back to aten skin and deleted ubuntu not 1 skip well test it out to confirm ma theory

By the way, i would like to know if I got it correct ot not.

simple load da script for mmc1 put it like wen i did ma 1gig not the 2(didnt wanna risk losin a 2gig) i enter the original size the 1 gig is like 989
i did mmc1 989 mmc5 lik 2 and so forth and i got back the 1gig cuz wen i partioned it first time was too small

man... you're making your life complicated...
get paragon partition manager and make the partitions under windows. FAT16 as Primary, swap and ext3 as logical units inside of a extended partition.

Title: Re: partitioning the SD card on the phone ( GUI app )
Post by: jhanimba on August 15, 2007, 06:15:27 pm
a even simpler solution sum1 jus make a 64mb mkpg swap file for all da newbies cuz sumtimes its a hassle to get rid offf the mounted partions im on only u and i dnt partion this new 2gig dat i got i gots 2 2 gigs and i dnt neeed to partition cuz only u firmware is fast enuff

EXT3 is Linux partition. Check this out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext3

Title: Re: partitioning the SD card on the phone ( GUI app )
Post by: fanofcc on August 16, 2007, 05:34:53 am
have some ways to use a SD 4Gb Card on E2.
1:spilt the card to 2 or 3 partions,ex:FAT16 2Gb,ext3 ~2gb and linuxswap...
2:split the card to only 2 partions:Fat16~4Gb (u must use Linux,ex Gnome Partions in Ubuntu...),and linuxswap...

gosh...
if you're gonna use swap/ext3 partitions, you must remember UNMOUNTING them when u're gonna plug the SD to your PC, or else you'll freeze your E2...

if u donno how to use, dont do that.. im still headache bout it.. stil confusing.. what for the partition?
i just know that partition is for separate data storage
FAT=Windows
EXT=Linux

but if we do 2 partition with a different file system.. it could be recognize by windows? and EXT partition for store what file?

Ok...I'll say what for EXT3
That's the idea of whitemoto(creator of TheOne)
He wanted to port Gentoo Linux, but as you know, linux need a linux partition,so EXT3 fits great for it.
But now they(whitemoto and other) have another idea, now porting gentoo idea is frozen.

Why Gentoo?coz there was a project to port Gentoo on PDA(don't remember which exacly), started gentoo on this PDA.it's easier to port it on E2,coz this PDA have SAME cpu as E2.

More Info about porting Gentoo Linux on devices with cpu pxa27x

Hi all,

this just seems like a bit much for the casual user.
I would love to benefit from a swap file or a swap partition ...
I have a 4gb card, that I dont want to split into partitions for easy reading in windows.

Id just like to be able to turn on and off a swap file ... even better, if the firmware could
be smart enough to determine if there is room on my card when I insert it (or turn the phone on or off), and then just create a swap file of an arbitrary size automatically, that would be so cool.

Its too much to mount and unmount all the time.
THats my idea.

After reading this whole thread, i come with this conclusion:-
1. Doing Ext3 partition on our SD is pointless since it just for storage purpose only (not performance)
2. Swap File (12MB) better than Swap Partition.

CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG..

I want to have a 128mb swap, what is the easiest way to have it?

a swap partition is far better than a swap file because a swap file runs over FAT16 and a swap partition is 'specializated'.
FAT16 sucks. It's an old filesystem, files tend to get corrupted or broken with time. EXT3 is far better, and E2's performance is really fast when read/write to EXT3. You can read/write EXT3 on windows if you install EXT3 driver.
These are my conclusions, since I've used both systems (swapfile and partitions)

so if im using swap partition, no need to use swapfile?
