Title: Pending upgrade
Post by: Exploited on September 22, 2007, 07:49:17 am
At the beginning of the next week we are going to rent a new XEON dedicated server with little more RAM (the current is kind of weak PIV with 512 only). All my moto sites will be moved there. We expect that to fix the slow loadings on motohell (recently much slower than before), e398mod and e2mod

Why I am writing this - because you may expect few hours of downtime on all websites. We will do our best to perform the migration with minimum downtime, but we cannot promise that everything will be 100% fluent

Little info for the server that we just ordered:
Dual Xeon CPU 2.8GHz
1GB DDR2-400 ECC RAM
250GB SATA HDD

We will see how it will run and soon we may order additional 1GB RAM.

FYI the curent config is way too weak:
Pentium IV CPU 2.4
512 MB DDR RAM
IDE HDD 80GB

I think he meant the server, not his own PC at home lol....

Windows servers are easier to setup, but continue with endless security fixes and problems... Once setuped Linux is better... I personally preffer FreeBSD

We have not moved yet, because the guys in the datacenter setuped buggy image on the hard drive and some ports are not properly working :) Waiting until they create new image and reinstall

i think they just mirror the disk right??

Yes, they setup one server and then every other will use the same mirrored disk.

The current problems are that:
1. It's old freeBSD 6.1 (they do not have 6.2)
2. It's buggy :)

Currently I am fighting for 6.2 reinstall

We are ready with e398mod (waiting DNS propagation and hopefully it will work fine for you all) :)

Other sites will be moved after few stability and security checks

E2mod is in process of moving to the new server. Will complete in 6 hours DNS propagation

MotoHell will be the next step :)
